(the remix)
Nia Sioux stars on a reality tv show called Dance Moms. I was watching a livestream that she did before her music video. I was hoping that she would show her video, but I don't know if she did because I had to go to dance practice. When I got back home, I went to her youtube channel and, saw that it was up. I found out that she had made her own song when I was watching Dance Moms. The dance coach/owner of the studio was talking with another dance mom because Nia’s mom wanted JoJo to sing with her and the other moms didn't like that. From that moment, I was excited to hear her first song. Nia Sioux is currently 14 years-old and has 3 songs out already. She is a new artist who started in 2015 at the age of 13. She is on a reality tv show and that is where most people know her from. Nia’s beat friend is JoJo Swia because Nia’s the only one who didn't laugh at the way she speaks. Nia is a nice, forgiving and, humble person. She has met people that we wish we could meet, gone to places that we wish we could go to. She has been dancing for 11 years, since the age of 3. She was born on July 20, 2001(same year as me) in Pittsburg, PA. Inspiring role models to her are: Maya Angelou(which she did a dance for), Michelle Obama, Rosa Parks, Oprah, and Mary Mcleod Bethune. The first song Nia made was “Star In Your Life” in 2015. The release date was March 3, 2015. She is on the elite team at ALDC which is what Dance Moms is based around). Along with Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler, Nia is the only one who has been there since season 1 who is still on the team, everyone else left. Nia uses metaphor, loaded language, and rhyme to convey theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say.
By using rhyme, Nia believes that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say. In verse 1, Nia sings to you that when something puts you down, you need to rise right back up.
“Life is a book and you write it
your happiness is on you
No matter what just keep up at it
And push through”,(“Star” 5-8).
By rhyming “you” with “push through” Nia is connecting the phase with no matter what happened you need to continue doing it, strive to complete. This reveals the theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say because when someone puts you down you need to show them that what they did to you did not affect you. Rise above them because you don't care what they think about you, only what you think about yourself.
Nia also uses loaded language to convey the theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say. In the chorus, she sings to the listener, you are confident and everything about is perfect.
“Cause your fearless,flawless”,(“Star” 9&10).
Nia uses the words “fearless” and “flawless” to convey a positive attitude towards the subject that being yourself is the best thing that anyone could ever be. This reveals the theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say because people may try to knock you down because you're being you, but you need to remember that you are fine just the way you are.
Finally, Nia uses metaphor to show her listeners that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say. In the chorus Nia sings to you that you're the most important person in life.
“You are a star in your own life”,(“Star” 55).
Nia is comparing the listeners to a star to show that you're nothing less than all of the other people in the world. This reveals the theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say because star are important to people so you need to think that you're important in your own life.
The most intriguing aspect of the song is the chorus. For instance, “Who ever you chose to be own it/It’s your drum it's your beat”(“Star” 14&15). This strengthens the song because it allows the listener to see that they're allowed to be whoever they want to be. A particular weakness of the song is the music video. It just doesn't make sense; we only see her dancing around in outfits. An example of this is when the video begins. We see Nia getting her hair fixed and makeup touched up. Why does it open up with that? This is a song that relates to everyone no matter what the gender, race, or religion. The video could show us what she’s talking about, not of her dancing and singing. The video could of been powerful that way and no one would expect her to be that way since she is only 14.
All in all, Nia Sioux uses metaphor, loaded language, and rhyme to convey the theme that you are as important as everyone else, no matter what people say. A similar message could be heard in the song “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. Both songs talk about how it’s okay to be who you are flaws and all. This topic is critical because at one point in your life, someone or something made you feel insignificant and everyday people go through this. This is one of those problems that you can make a million solutions to, but there is always going to that one person who wants to make the world and everyone else in it feel bad about themselves. I can make a call to action, but I doubt that anyone will listen. I recommend that everyone should remember how special they are because you are you and that's okay.
