"Hall Of Fame" by Melissa Croda

It was a sunny/windy day. I was at home with my siblings. I was babysitting my brothers for the day. A few hours past and it was about 4:00pm. I turn on the TV and my little brother wanted to watch Disney channel, so I put it on. It was on commercial break, then one commercial starts playing. The commercial was showing Disney princesses, how they are an inspiration to little kids watching. Half way through the song, it started playing “Hall Of Fame.” I thought the message throughout this commercial was that you should not let anything get in your way. An example to this “message” is the movie “Tangled.” Rapunzel did not let her “mom” get in her way, to see the outside world. The Script was formed in the year 2001. Danny,Mark and Glen all grew up in Dublin and were born in the 70’s (1970’s),(“The Script”). Danny and Mark met each other when they were 12 years old. They first released their album on 8 August, 2008. In the song “Hall Of Fame,” the Script uses the literary device Allusion to connect back to the theme in the beginning of the song.

The Script uses rhyme to convey the theme that you should never give up and keep trying. In the chorus Danny sings,”Standing in the hall of fame/And the world is gonna know your name/ Cause you burn with the brightest flame.”(“Hall” 14-16). The Script uses “fame” and “name” because name is how you are introduced and part of your personality. This reveals the theme that you should never give up and keep trying by not letting anything get in your way!

One compelling way the Script conveys the theme is by using Allusion, this reveal the theme that you should never give up and keep trying. In the beginning of the song the Script is sharing out a message that you can be the best, maybe out of all the people out there all you have to do is just give it  shot. In the beginning of the song the Script sings,” You can be the King Kong banging on your chest.” (“Hall” 3). In the third verse of the song the Script talks about how you should always be yourself  and give it all you got. In my opinion I think that if you imagine yourself as an ape/gorilla (like the movie King Kong) you will feel like you have power and nothing can stop you.

Another way,the Script conveys the theme is by using rhyme. This reveals the theme that you should never give up and keep trying. In the first verse of the song, the Script is describing how running a mile can leave you happy. If you think about if you ran a mile, in my opinion you will feel accomplished because you have ran a mile and at the end you may feel tired but proud that you ran! The Script sings,”You could run the mile/You could walk straight through hell with a smile” (“Hall” 20-21). Through these two verses, it connects back to the theme that you should never give up and keep trying no matter what.

A particular strength of the song is after the chorus. An example of this is when the Script sings,”Do it for your people / Do it for your pride/How you ever gonna know if you never even try” (“Hall” 25-27). These three verses connects back to the Frico Five because they are all in a hunger strike to make our future better so we can finally walk on the streets feeling safe and no innocents being killed for no reason. The Frisco Five connect back to the theme that you should never give up and keep trying cause if you don’t, then you won’t make it to the position you want to be.

“Hall Of Fame” is an encouraging song that has the theme, you should never give up and keep trying. These lyrics had a huge impact on me. The lyrics always encourage me to not let anything get me down and don’t let anything stop me from something that I want to do. Mostly this song can help out if your like in a situation where you're about to go and perform in front of a room with 550 people. You start to get nervous. I think that just listening to this song can help boost your confidence and help out in a situation like this. As long as you never give up and keep trying you will achieve your goals.

  1. I think this was very interesting, and you have an amazing intro paragraph. However, you could have smoother transitions.
