No More Police Brutality!
I’d like to start my blog by telling a story about what happened to Ms. Sasson’s boyfriend. In that time the boyfriend of Ms. Sasson was black, so he went for a walk around the house and a person called the police because they thought that he was trying to break in. So when the police came, the cop took out his gun and they starting searching around the house, but Ms. Sasson explain everything and everything went good. And I think that the people called the police because of the color of his skin and also I think because of his clothes. Eric garner was an african american men that was treated bad by police officers because police officers thought he was selling cigarettes and slammed his face on the ground, leading to the death of Eric Garner.
Well I think that police officer should be responsible of the death of Eric Garner because one reason is that a police officer used chokehold on him which was banned. And also i found something on an article that said, “One cop uses a chokehold that is not supposed to be used and slams Garner’s face into the ground” (Ossei-Owusu 1). I think that that means that the police officer just wanted to hit Eric Garner because he thought that Eric was doing something bad. That shows that the police officer used something on Eric Garner that putted him in danger. Sometimes police officers use something that isn't supposed to be used. But also police officers do things for a reason, but still the police officer wasn't supposed to do that. Eric Garner was innocent.
Another reason of why police officers should be responsible of the death of Eric Garner is that police officers kill black people the most. And I think that police officers kill black people more because of the color of their skin. And also i know that because i read an article that said, “Between 1975 and 1983 at least 16 people died from the police use of chokeholds and 12 of them were black” (Ossei-Owusu 1). And I think that the evidence means that police officers kill black people because they think that black people do bad things and white people do not, I think that that's why police kill black people. When police officers do their job they try to stop crime but they think that black people are doing that,so that’s why they kill them, but black people are not the only ones doing that so police officers need to figure out first who did it instead of blaming it on someone else first. That’s why police officers should be responsible of the death of Eric Garner.
While it’s clear that police officers should be responsible of the death of Eric Garner, others might say that Garner’s weight and not the chokehold caused his death. You will hear a lot about his health problems (asthma and diabetes) (Ossei-Owusu 1). However, the police officer was not suppose to us the chokehold on him because he was not doing something bad,and also because Eric Garner was defenseless. And also others might think that Garner a 43 year old man, had history of more than 30 arrests since 1980. He’d been arrested on charges including assault and grand larceny (Ossei-Owusu 1). But still the police officers would of just take him to jail but not kill him. He would've just stay in jail paying everything but not pay everything with death.
As you can see, the Police Officer should be held responsible because he was innocent, police only kill color people and also because the chokehold is banned already. And this matters because when people finish reading this i hope they will change. And if some police read this a hope that they could reflect and know when it’s the right time to use chokehold and other things.
